Learning all about hermit crabs became a new way of life. Hermit crabs can live up to 20 to 30 to 50 years if they have enough shells and proper living conditions. Angela noticed hermit crabs competing for shells to allow for room and growth. Many times, the hermit crab whose shell is taken, is left exposed, and dies. Angela is working to bring “shell shortage” awareness to all and hope their Crustacean Plantation story encourages them during their next ocean visit, to “Leave the Shell, Take the Memory”. Who knows, maybe the shell you found will become some lucky hermie’s new home. Help us tell the story of the Hermit Crabs of the Florida Keys today.
